Although Europe transcends national borders, it is
sometimes a struggle for neighbouring countries to live and work
together – even when all that stands between them is the dotted
line on the map that marks the boundary between member
states.
The Channel that separates the South of England from
Normandy is rather more imposing than the dotted line. This is
why our aim here is to find a way to transform this narrow
stretch of water into an inland sea, whose shores we share and
around which we can pool our expertise. The ISCE-Chem project
was created in 2009 so as to set in motion this community
approach.
By bringing together 8 establishments and research
institutes from both sides of the Channel, we aim to grow in
synergy and raise awareness, in both countries, about the
scientific expertise in molecular chemistry to be found in this
greater-region. At the same time, we offer excellent training at
Masters and Ph.D. levels. Let us not forget that the programme
has an overall budget of €13.5M with €6.5M from European
Funds (FEDER) as part of the INTERREG IV A France-(Channel)-England programme.
